On July 26, the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) 2025 commenced simultaneously at various venues in Shanghai, including the Expo Center and the Xuhui Waterfront.
A key event within the conference was a specialized salon titled "Intelligent New Era: Restructuring Ecosystems and Empowering AI Innovations in Dongguan." This forum focused on the dynamic practices of the AI industry in the Binhaiwan Bay Area in Dongguan.
Zhou Deliang, General Manager of Dongguan Binhaiwan Industrial Investment Co., introduced the AI community in the Binhaiwan Bay Area. Situated in the heart of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Binhaiwan Bay Area is leveraging its advantageous location and solid industrial foundation to establish itself as an AI hub. Notably, Dongguan produces one in every five mobile phones globally, with 90% to 95% of a smartphone's components available within a one-hour commute.
Focusing on the integration of "AI with smart terminals" and "AI with advanced manufacturing," Binhaiwan Bay Area is prioritizing the development of cloud-edge computing infrastructure in advanced manufacturing. The region is accelerating the implementation of the Intelligent Computing Center project to enhance data-driven industries and is planning AI industrial spaces, such as Lingxi Island and the AI Future Building.
Xu Guojing, General Manager of Alibaba Cloud's Smart Industry and IoT division, emphasized that the real challenge and opportunity for AI lie in embedding AI technologies and large models into the physical world, aligning seamlessly with Dongguan's manufacturing-focused AI strategy.
As the AI industry evolves, the key to competition in its next phase will be "ecological strength." Binhaiwan Bay Area is providing a model ecosystem centered on manufacturing scenarios that integrates all essential resources, aiming to resolve the "last mile" issue of AI implementation.
